Hear New Sound: EMA's "Anteroom"

Recent BUZZSound alumni, EMA, is just a week shy away from releasing her breakthrough debut, Past Life Martyred Saints, on Southern Transmissions. The drone-laden alt-rock stunner from the former Gowns' frontwoman is an instant candidate for album of the year with tracks like "Anteroom" punctuating that statement. In it, Erika M. Anderson molds herself into the ghostly, purgatory-like position of an ex-lover. She makes the most of Sonic Youth's complexity, but does away with their noisier nuances by stripping down to an acoustic to make something elegantly somber that will garner haunting reminders of Chan Marshall's early work. Despite Anderson's downer emotes, the song's electric guitar bridge mid-way through will keep you holding on. She'll be fine...
