Hear New Sound: M83's "Midnight City"

Three years ago, M83 mastermind, Anthony Gonzalez, transcended electronic music barriers by tapping into the heart of teenage nostalgia with his critically acclaimed synth-pop smash, Saturdays = Youth. That album has since been regarded as M83's most cohesive, straight-forward effort to date but certainly doesn't pale in comparison to the more experimental electronic soundscapes M83 discovered in 2003's Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts or 2005's Before the Dawn Heals Us. It's only fitting that Gonzalez is touting his upcoming fifth effort and double LP, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, as the culminating moment of all these past explorations as an artist. Our first glimpse into what to expect out of the M83 galaxy this time around arrives in "Midnight City," which sounds like it blasts right back into the intergalactic synth stratosphere alongside Saturdays = Youth hits, "Kim and Jessie" and "Graveyard Girl." 2011: The year we make contact...
