Hear New Sound: High Places' "Year Off"

There's some truth in advertising to what song title says, as it's been a little over one year since experimental noise pop duo, High Places, have treated listeners with something new to absorb their eardrums in. Come October 11th, that changes when the Los Angeles-by-way-of-Brooklyn team of Mary Pearson and Rob Barber release their third formal effort, Original Colors, on Thrill Jockey Records. The first listen off LP 3 is the aptly-titled "Year Off," which finds Pearson zoning in on her hollowed vocals and more focus on both members ends on a minimalist synth pop approach that will surely find much comfort and greater appreciation in the Altered Zones-era of the music world. After all, High Places are a band whose music is well ahead of its time. How far ahead exactly? A rough guess would be more than a "Year Off"...
