Hear New Sound: Wavves' "I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl"

A few months ago, Wavves' frontman Nathan Williams said he was working on a new EP consisting of fresh material that takes a note from the song book of influential '90s Moog-driven pop rockers and Weezer off-shoot, The Rentals. On their past two releases, the San Diego three-piece has struck a balance between lo-bedroom pop and a glossier form of fuzz rock, so the shift in direction is both welcoming and intriguing. We finally get a better idea of what the bratty pop punker meant by namedropping the alluded influence in Life Sux' first (and incredibly-named) single, "I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl." While the track doesn't seem to contain any synths or modulated keys, it sounds as if Wavves have tuned their guitar and bass in a way to mimic the glitchy fuzz heard on Matt Sharp and his "Friends of P"'s 1995 debut, Return of The Rentals. Unfortuantely, Dave Grohl doesn't make an appearance, but consider this an open invite to the Foo Fighter from Williams...
