LIVESound: Abe Vigoda's Daytrotter Session

Former tropicalia noise punk quartet, Abe Vigoda, made a fully-formed jump into dark synth-pop territory with last year's phenomenal fourth LP, Crush. It was a drastic metamorphosis that paid off for The Smell alumni (so much that AwkwardSound named it the sixth best album of 2010) who had, until that point, been more known for spastic, angular guitar riffs and Liars-esque drum breakdowns. Now, in a recent set for the Illinois-based live session website, Daytrotter, the Chino, CA natives are again evolving their sound to fit a different climate. Playing several songs off Crush, Abe Vigoda remove layers of deep-laced synthetic textures that otherwise make them suitable to burn up the dance floor in exchange for an intimate, dreamy feel more apt for the confines of a cold, empty bedroom. Below, you can hear "Repeating Angel" and "Throwing Shade," and then head on over to Daytrotter to download the entire set.
