Hear New Sound: Zola Jesus' Conatus

Last year, she was named AwkwardSound's Best New Artist while her double-whammy of EPs landed Zola Jesus in the Top 5 of AS' Best Albums of 2010. Now, the gothic chanteuse is readying her most important release of her career with her sophomore effort, Conatus, available October 4th through longtime home, Sacred Bones. We've already heard the sinisterly entrancing lead single, "Vessel" and got a rough preview of "Avalanche" on a recent Daytrotter session. Even though Nika Danilova tried out dance floor textures with the Stridulum and Velusia EPs, you'll hear that darkness never fails to elude the doom pop songstress through deep, cold synths and electronica. In the thick of her monstrously operatic vocals, they shimmer like diamonds. Thanks to the The Guardian UK, you can read Nika's musings on each track. Below, you can undertake Conatus.
