Hear New Sound: Esben and the Witch's "Hexagons II (The Flight)"

January feels like ages ago now that we're nearing the tail end of 2011, and it's pretty amazing how much expectations can change over the course of several months. Case in point? Esben and the Witch, the spooky-sounding indie trio who AwkwardSound named one of the most hyped new acts before the year even started. While their debut, Violet Cries left a promising impression here on AS, the Brighton, England trio's star has yet to take off at the same meteoric level as some of their newer peers in the music scene. Perhaps in an effort to give listeners another reminder of their arrival, Esben and the Witch has announced Hexagons, a brand new six-track EP that will be released on November 7th through Matador Records. Unlike Violet Cries' snowy silence, the EP's first cut "Hexagons II (The Flight)" (free to download at the Matablog) finds the bewitching band building off the intensity of their live show and sharpening the edges on their sound to create a bolder clarity. With All Hallow's Eve just around the corner, their eerie style of music can only be more inviting...
