Hear New Sound: Loma Prieta's "Fly By Night"

Another day, another Bay Area band breaking through -- or so it seems here on AwkwardSound. Alongside regional rabble rousers Touché Amoré, Trash Talk and Ceremony, Loma Prieta is the latest act in a slew of a promising new wave of DIY punk emerging out of the California 'burbs who -- as their name may suggest -- should be delivering aftershocks throughout the scene very soon with the release of their debut album. I.V. arrives on hardcore stable, Deathwish Records and its first listen, "Fly By Night" is something that fans of everything from pg. 99's grindcore influence to American Nightmare's personal attachment and brand of screamo will appreciate. You would think at this point, this style of music would be over-saturating itself. However, it's been awhile since we've had a "golden age of hardcore" so to speak. When it's done right like it is here on Loma Prieta's "Fly By Night," you just can't help but trust your instincts and go with it.
