LIVESound: Beck Returns at the Bridge School Benefit

Legendary songwriter Neil Young's annual Bridge School Benefit is celebrating its 25th anniversary this weekend out in Mountain View, CA. It's a charity-driven festival organized by Young and his wife, Pegi that collects an eclectic mix of their dearest friends and younger acts such as Arcade Fire to raise money for individuals with severe speech and physical impairments. Collaborations galore are to be expected, but perhaps one of the warmest highlights of the occasion was a return to the stage by alt-rock godfather, Beck, who until this weekend hasn't played live very much over the past two years. Donning a brown overcoat and fedora reminiscent to the night's master of ceremonies, Mr. Hansen's set included a cover of Young's "Pocahontas" (to which Young accompanied him on) alongside the Sea Change-era classic, "Guess I'm Doin' Fine." Now that fall is in full effect, it's stripped-down performances like these that make for perfect timing, just like Beck's reemergence.
