Hear New Sound: The Babies' "Trouble"

Brooklyn-based lo-fi rockers Cassie Ramone of Vivian Girls and Woods' Kevin Morby both had pretty busy years with the release of their respected band's new albums. In between these jaunts, Ramone and Morby still found time to join forces and form The Babies alongside Bossy drummer Justin Sullivan. Their fuzzed-out self-titled debut was released last February, but with each of their full-time gigs winding down on promoting new material in 2011, The Babies are ringing in the new year with a brand new 12" entitled Cry Along With the Babies. While the new recording is imminently set to be released on Real Estate guitarist Matt "Ducktails" Mondanile's very own label, New Images, you can now hear its first single, "Trouble." This listen offers up solid evidence that lo-fi production still has some life left in it as we enter 2012, and as Ramone and Morby back away from the distortion pedals in exchange for some dreamy, warm folk pop (a.k.a. the cure for the winter blues,) one can assume The Babies are starting off 2012 with their feet stepping toward a new direction. Find your way into their "Trouble" below...
