Hear New Sound: Cloud Nothings' "Stay Useless"

If you followed the entirety of AwkwardSound's Best of 2011 series, it's no secret that breakthrough artist Cloud Nothings had a red hot year. The new year should be keeping the hot streak alive for the indie punk quartet, as their sophomore LP Attack On Memory (due out January 24th on Carpark) has already begun to showcase an exciting shift in direction and maturity spearheaded by production from alt-great Steve Albini. "No Future / No Past" was a surprisingly dark and angry first listen, but the sunny, self-deprecating uptempo of yesterday returns in the Cleveland act's latest offering, "Stay Useless." It certainly sounds like frontman Dylan Baldi has outgrown his nasally vocals, while the band continues to refine their brand of pop punk, but don't get too attached to this style. Baldi says of the track to Rolling Stone:

"'Stay Useless' was my attempt at making a catchy pop song that was better than any other pop song I've written. I'm trying to take Cloud Nothings to different areas, songwriting-wise, so I figured I should try and finish off the 'poppy' songs with a bang."

Enjoy it while you can...
