Hear New Sound: The Weeknd's Echoes of Silence Mixtape

When breakthrough artist The Weeknd arrived on the scene under a cloud of mystery earlier this year with the House of Balloons, the Toronto R&B artist and frequent Drake collaborator also promised to deliver two more mixtapes by the end of 2011. The sequential Thursday was released this past August, but up until late last night, it was looking as though the final installation to the three-part series might not make it out before the new year. It turns out Abel Tesfaye is a man of his word and peculiar timing, as Echoes of Silence is now available just in time to ruin everyone's year-end lists (It also makes for a perfect holiday present to all his fans and a deserved capstone to a highly successful year.) On initial listen, you'll hear that Echoes of Silence bounces tunefully dark pop hooks off The Weeknd's heated brand of R&B flare, hitting that point home with his interpretation of Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana" and the previously blogged track, "Initiation." Likeminded producer Clams Casino also sits in on this set, owning recording duties on "The Fall." Let The Weeknd's Echoes of Silence resonate below, or download the mixtape for free here.
