Hear New Sound: War's "Brodermordet"

Just a few days ago, AwkwardSound spotlighted yet another sure-win for Sacred Bones Records in the form of BUZZSound Pop. 1280 and already, the NYC-based label is giving the music world yet another release worth looking forward to. Danish punk outfit Iceage had a huge breakthrough year in 2011 with their awesome debut, New Brigade, an album which sat pretty towards the top of AS' 25 Best Albums list. It turns out Iceage isn't the only project occupying frontman Elias Bender R√łnnenfelt these days, as he and Loke Rahbek (of fellow Copenhagen punk act Sexdrome) are creating music together under the moniker War. They've so far recorded a double A-side 7" single -- entitled "At War for Youth" -- and it'll see the light of day here in the States on February 21st through Sacred Bones. According to Pitchfork, the duo used a four-track cassette when recording these songs, which is evident on the single's B-side, "Brodermordet," a hiss-filled beat-driven track that's the antithesis of Iceage's chaos and disorder. But make no mistakes, beneath that grime and grind are subtle layers of punk scratching their way toward the surface. I guess they aren't called War for nothing...
