Hear New Sound: Chromatics' "Into the Black" (Neil Young Cover)

Portland-based Italo pop outfit Chromatics arguably have more ears tuned into their music these days after being featured in last year's thrill-seeking Drive soundtrack, and their momentum should continue accelerating throughout 2012 with the release of their fourth LP Kill for Love, due out soon on Italians Do It Better. Back in October of last year, they introduced us to the glistening first single and title track but now the electro-pop quartet are following that up with a curiously minimalist take on the heavy-hitting Neil Young classic "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)" off of 1979's Rust Never Sleeps. Simplifying the song title to just "Into the Black," Ruth Radelet's vocals emerge over dusty guitars with little electronic fair to contend with, bringing to mind a softened image of the band's early lo-fi noise punk sound.
