Hear New Sound: Real Estate's "In My Car"

As it looks right now, 2012 will mark the unofficial return of the zine and Flexidiscs, as it seems the indie rock community is again back-pedaling to nostalgic formats to draw interest in new music and musicians' non-musical endeavors. The latest to join the fray is Domino Records (home to the likes of Animal Collective, Real Estate, and Cass McCombs) and its subsidiary imprint Ribbon Music who've announced their own zine entitled Smugglers Way. The 24-page publication is set to be released on Record Store Day (a.k.a. April 21st) and will feature everything from shorts penned by Alex Bleeker, illustrations by Twin Sisters' Andrew Estrella to cover art designed by Black Dice's Bjorn Copeland. Smugglers Way also includes a nice bonus in five Flexidiscs, one being an exclusive cut by Real Estate, "In My Car." The new song (which isn't included on last year's excellent Days) originally debuted in January via a live set for NPR's World Cafe, but has since been sharped up in the studio for this one-of-a-kind release. Hop in the New Jersey indie popper's passenger seat below before you take that trip down paper-based memory lane...
