Hear New Sound: Torche's "Kicking"

Floridian metalmakers Torche made a significantly innovative breakthrough in 2008 with their sophomore effort Meanderthal, an album that transcended the genre's core by marrying it with arena-sized alt-rock anthemry. Four years later, the sludge rockers are returning with a brand new full-length effort entitled Harmonicraft, due out April 24th. It's the quartet's first LP with new guitarist Andrew Elstner, and features all hands on the recording deck from within Torche's extended family as bassist Jonathan Nuñez oversaw production while Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou handled mixing. Torche has also made the move from Hydra Head Records to fashion skate brand Volcom's music imprint, a change that should put their unique hybrid of metal-infused fuzz rock in front of a larger audience. As Harmonicraft's first listen "Kicking" suggests, Torche's penchant for gigantic pop rock melodies entwined in chugging riffs is only growing stronger. Death from below...
