And so it begins. This weekend should go down as a well-deserved turning point in the career of one of 2010's breakthrough artists, makers of the second best album of that year and California-based progressive hardcore punk quintet Ceremony. Leading up to the release of their Matador debut and #1 most anticipated album of 2012 here on AwkwardSound, Zoo, the band is currently in NYC where they're set to perform one of their largest headlining shows to date at Le Poisson Rouge alongside a batshit amazing list of openers including Pissed Jeans and Gods and Queens. Before that show goes down however, the Rohnert Park act paid WNYU's The New Afternoon Show a visit where they debuted five new songs live off of Zoo including recent AwkwardSound-approved track "Hysteria" and the upcoming single "Adult." Zoo doesn't arrive until March 6th, but AS has been salivating to hear the band's new material in light of comments by frontman Ross Farrar about how LP 4 is "going to be weirder," finds the band at a crossroads with hardcore and absorbing gritty post-punk influence into their sound. Let's just say he sure wasn't kidding. Head over to The New Afternoon Show's archive page to stream Ceremony's set, which is sandwiched halfway through the show between some Mazzy Star and Throbbing Gristle.
