Hear New Sound: Baroness' "Take My Bones Away"

Much like their contemporaries Torche and Kylesa, Baroness continue to prove why the southeast is the hotbed for sludgy, muscular hook-friendly metal here in the United States. The Savannah-based rockers in particular have a very consistent streak to uphold, considering their critically-acclaimed debut and sophomore efforts Red Album and Blue Album transcended traditional genre ethos and have made Baroness one of those rare heavy acts to find an ongoing curiosity in indie, punk and alternative circles. Their third effort, an ambitious double LP that keeps with the color themes, Yellow & Green arrives July 17th on Relapse Records. Its first preview showcases some pretty exciting transitions set to gut-check listeners' loyalty as "Take My Bones Away" is a sprawling five-minute jackhammer that flexes a bit more of the band's muscles during its grungy chorus than in heavy breakdowns. Make no mistakes -- This listen is anything but fragile...
