Hear New Sound: Ceremony's "I Don't Wanna Be Learned / I Don't Wanna Be Tamed" (Ramones Cover)

On top of releasing one of the year's best albums in their Matador debut and highly evolved fourth LP Zoo, Bay area progressive hardcore quintet Ceremony also have a knack for tackling their peers' music. About a year ago, they proved how well they could do so with 6 Cover Songs, an EP which featured their takes on everyone from Wire and The Pixies to more obscure punk acts such as Crisis and Eddie and the Subtitles. They've since added two more loyal but otherwise very Ceremony-esque takes to the list during their Zoo days with the "Hysteria" B-side "I'm a Bug," originally by fellow SoCal punkers The Urinals, and today, venturing into the NYC scene's past by covering the Ramones' "I Don't Wanna Be Learned / I Don't Wanna Be Tamed" (a fitting selection to celebrate their headlining show tonight at Brooklyn's Warsaw as part of the Northside Festival.) AwkwardSound could listen to albums on end of Ceremony thrashing through other people's music as well as their own. As they say, you can take the animals out of the Zoo, but you can't take the Zoo out of the animals...
