Sound Bites: Wavves, Woods and the xx

Wavves' "Hippies Is Punks"

Outside from his recent brotherly side-project Sweet Valley, 2012 has been a relatively quiet year for ear-ringing brat punker Nathan Williams and his band Wavves, but they've broken their silent streak with a brand new single as part of Adult Swim's Singles Series. "Hippies Is Punks" finds Williams and company sanding down rough areas in the production department, which may hint at a cleaner -- yet still ferocious -- sounding third LP. Speaking of which, Williams also took to Twitter to announce that their next effort is almost done and stay's true to the band's DIY values on creative control.

Woods' "Size Meets the Sound"

Days after wrapping up this year's Woodsist Festival under the sun in Big Sur, the label's main man Jeremy Earl is now focusing his attention on September 18th, when his long-standing project Woods releases their newest effort Bend Beyond. Back in early July, we got our first taste of what to expect in the rustic, sun-dried listen "Cali In a Cup." The album's latest track "Size Meets the Sound" splashes some autumnal psychedelia around your speakers, hinting at yet another seasonably apt listen from the Brooklyn-based lo-fi folksters.

The xx's "Chained"

With upcoming albums from Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear maybe being the only other popular indie releases big enough to combat, the xx's forthcoming sophomore effort Coexist is at the forefront in terms of fever-pitch widespread anticipation. We've already heard the quiet, cracked open first listen "Angels," and today we hear Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sims retreating to dueling vocal flirtations around Jamie X's minimalist beats on "Chained." Coexist arrives on September 11th via Young Turks.
