Hear New Sound: The Weeknd's "Wicked Games" (Radio Edit)

It was well over a year ago that a modern take on sultry R&B created by a mysterious figure known as the Weeknd began to burn up the Internet's hype machine with a little help from a big endorsement by hip-hop superstar and eventual collaborator Drake plugging the free sounds through Twitter and the OVO blog. Since then, the man behind the breakthrough act, Abel Tesfaye, has become one of the more well-known and sought-out innovators in his scene, having released three solid mixtapes, produced tracks for Drizzy's latest effort and catapulted his way to the top tier of the world's biggest festivals. What's kind of insane is that despite amounting a huge level of success nearly overnight which most artists normally don't see for years, the Toronto native hasn't made a penny off his music since last year's trifecta House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence were available as free downloads. Tesfaye has now struck a non-contractual deal with Universal Republic, however, and they'll be releasing all three efforts under the title Trilogy on November 13th. Not only will the album feature three brand new tracks, but others will undergo a remastered makeover for their proper coming out. The radio edit of Early AS favorite "Wicked Games" is our first preview of what we can expect, and while it's a bit glossier, throws a few more effects into the mix and places a piano delicately into the background, it's still worth every penny of yours as it was last year.
