Hear New Sound: Whirr's "Twist" / "Between Asleep and Awake"

2011 BUZZSound alumni Whirr are enjoying a well-deserved breakout just several months removed from the release of their solid debut LP Pipe Dreams, some exposure at SXSW, an upcoming fall tour opening for Title Fight and not to ignore the fact that guitarist Nick Bassett's affiliation as a member of the much-hyped black metal band, Deafheaven gathers more eyes their way as well. A small victory lap for the San Fran neo-shoegaze sextet (that in turn results in an added bonus for listeners) doesn't sound too unreasonable, which is what they'll do on October 16th when Run for Cover releases a split single between Whirr and dreamescaping Portland-based post-punk band, Anne. For their half, Whirr contributes two brand new tracks with the A-side "Twist" and B-side "Between Asleep and Awake." Both feature Alexandra Morte up front balancing herself between the band's affinity for fast-pedaling into noise-pop and gliding skywide into heavy distortion. Acoustic//Electric has the latter, and you can can turn your way below for "Twist"...
