Hear New Sound: Chromatics' Running From the Sun

As a gracious thank you to listeners and a well-deserved victory lap of sorts for the band, Chromatics mastermind Johnny Jewel has freely offered up a late night treat all the way from Amsterdam where the band is currently on tour in the form of a new mixtape album. Running From the Sun features outtakes from the sessions that ultimately resulted in this year's most excellent LP, Kill for Love, including 8 previously unreleased tracks alongside alternate reworks of "Kill for Love" and "These Streets Will Never Look the Same," Jewel says they were all recorded between November of 2009 and December of last year, elaborating, "After hours of tracking at the studio in Montreal, we'd clear the channels on the mixer, open a bottle of wine, ad feel around in the dark... Working our way through the atmospheric elements and peeling back layers of rhythm... Throwing the songs into the abstract pile and playing them while driving home in the snow." That certainly can be heard throughout this half-hour plus listen, which is a bit more icy in comparison to Kill for Love's warm, ruby-colored textures. Feel the freeze by Running From the Sun below...
