Hear New Sound: WU LYF's "T R I U M P H"

2012 is now coming to its death crawl, and so marks the time of year where bands who've lost their spark quietly announce their respective break-ups and departures conveniently during the peak of the holiday bustle. It appears the first casualty of the year are Manchester quartet WU LYF, the 2011 BUZZSound who lured the blogosphere into their heavy indie pop sound with their mysterious guise, initial anonymity and gorilla marketing campaigns, which all revealed themselves quite nicely on their debut, Go Tell Fire On the Mountain. The announcement of their apparent exit doesn't come without a parting gift, as they've uploaded a new track "T R I U M P H" with some cryptic words in its description onto their YouTube page.

Perhaps a bit telling as to where the demise of the quartet might have stemmed from, frontman Ellery James Roberts had his own separate letter to listeners ("By the time I wrote this I was all ready gone. You know you aint got nothing but time, but time isn't an infinite currency I want to see wasted. If this is our last month living, apocalypse looming, I am not going to spend my final hours waiting in purgatory. I am done. There is nothing here that inspires / interests me beyond the emptiness for dreams. and I don't want to spend my life asleep;...") while Evans Kati, Joe Manning and Tom McClung's collective not-goodbye hints that the three will carrying on together ("I am gone. This isn't the end. This is the begging. We done business to be as free as we want to be; I'm exercising this freedom. Manchester and the life we maintaining is leaving me empty. It is a beautiful / incredible / insane world we live and I'm done walking round in baby step circles in a self involved bubble. WU LYF isn't that important. So go do what you want to do. If you wanna play together, Play! your(sic) talented musicians so don't waste that...")

I guess "WE BROS" only applies to three of its four members now? Their final "T R I U M P H" below...
