Sound Bites: The Night Marchers, Ra Ra Riot and Torche

The Night Marchers' "All Hits"

Hot Snakes' reunion stint looks to be over for the moment while Rocket from the Crypt's hasn't even started yet, thus making this is a great time for member John Reis to gather up the troops in his most recent project the Night Marchers to release a new album. Allez Allez is the sophomore follow-up to 2008's See You In Magic, and scheduled to arrive on January 22nd via Reis' Swami Records. Below, you can hear its ricocheting first preview, "All Hits," a song some fans might notice has floating around on a 7" single since 2011, but has been remastered and promoted to a full-length spotlight.

Ra Ra Riot's "When I Dream"

Back in November, we got our first hack into Beta Love, the forthcoming LP from Ra Ra Riot, with its highly synthesized title track. The transition from orchestral pop into an electronically-absorbed schizoid affair isn't so surprising, as this LP marks the first recording since cellist Alexandra Lawn left the band in February. On "When I Dream," the latest listen from the Brooklyn-by-way-of-Syracuse quartet, they continue to fill in Lawn's vacancy with keyboards and electronic soundscapes, but with a sensual, minimalist soundscape similiar to that of their upcoming tour mates Passion Pit on this year's sophomore success Gossamer. Beta Love arrives January 22nd on Barsuk Records.

Torche's "Harmonslaught"

It didn't make the cut on AS' 25 Best Albums of 2012, but Torche's big and sludgy effort Harmonicraft definitely ranks among one of the best metal albums of the year around here. The album got a lot of flack elsewhere for laying the hooks on thick and not necessarily abiding by genre "standards" in terms of heaviness. To those critics, take a listen to "Harmonslaught," the A-side from a new 7" single the Floridian noisemakers just unleashed today via Amnesian Records. No word on when exactly the track was recorded, but sonic booms like this supply concrete evidence that Torche haven't gone soft just yet. They're currently in the midst of a home state tour, with more dates set for the surrounding area come February.
