Hear New Sound: Colin Stetson's "High Above a Grey Green Sea"


Bass sax virtuoso Colin Stetson has been crafting confrontational designer noise compositions since his New History Warefare took off in 2008, but he is now preparing to punctuate the trilogy when New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light marks the final chapter of the project on April 30th via Constellation. Throughout the years, Stetson has also managed to become chummy with some of the biggest indie rock bands out there by acting as a touring member for the likes of Arcade Fire and Bon Iver, with the latter paying back the favor on this LP as Justin Vernon is slated to appear on four tracks. "High Above a Grey Green Sea" is not one of them, but it is our first preview off ...To See More Light. It features Stetson's demanding structure of manipulated woodwinds and haunting vocal effects that you may or may not pick up upon first listen (but you'd be robbing yourself of the ambitious experience if you didn't at least effort an honest try.)
