Hear New Sound: MS MR's "Fantasy"

From their humble beginnings quietly recording in a Brooklyn home studio to working their way up to a major label deal with Columbia, rising pop gem-carving duo MS MR have quickly surfaced on the top layer of 2013’s most promising new acts out of the NYC parameter. On May 14th, Max Hershenow alongside his dusky-voiced female co-lead Lizzy Plapinger will see the release of their debut album Second Hand Rapture. We recently heard Plapinger play the part of luminary goth pop chanteuse Siouxie Sioux on an collaborative EP with scuzzy noise rockers Mr. Dream, but now we get to hear the full range of her bellowing pipes with no disguise on Second Hand Rapture's first listen, "Fantasy." MS MR's sound has definitely outgrown smaller space since their early days, but here their dazzling multi-instrumental textures both flutter and quake in a manner that could cut a like-minded dark pop heavyweight like Florence Welch down to size. This year's Governor's Ball Music Festival which takes place in the Big Apple's Randall's Island has also confirmed MS MR as one of the many acts set to appear on this year's impressive lineup, so things are looking well for the duo's breakthrough future in 2013. Until then, get caught up in MS MR "Fantasy" below...
