Hear New Sound: Mikal Cronin's "Shout It Out"

Ty Segall's right-hand man Mikal Cronin is stepping out of the shadow of his lo-fi lovin' friend's live band (and the countless other projects he works on) to release the sophomore follow-up to 2011's full-of-power-fuzz self-titled debut. I hadn't come across that listen until last year when it was reissued on cassette via Burger Records, but this time around, Cronin's shredded noise pop will be heard from the distance, as the Laguna Beach garage rocker has signed on with venerable indie Merge Records to release MCII on May 17th. "Shout It Out" is its first listen, a song that will surely remedy your late winter blues with a breezy coastal vibe that bites its way into a spunky sun-soaked hook similar to how Cloud Nothings' debut felt unseasonably warm upon its arrival.
