Hear New Sound: Empire of the Sun's "Alive"

American audiences usually take it for granted that they're at the forefront of new sounds bubbling under, but AS very much recalls how we collectively didn't catch onto the electro-pop spectacle of Australian duo Empire of the Sun until a year or so after the release of their debut Walking On a Dream (sans a nudge for the beautifully polished title track on the tail-end of Pitchfork's year-end list.) Taking into account they waited until 2010 to show up at Coachella's polo fields with their costume-driven live show, the prolonged support of the LP makes it easier to understand how five years have already passed since Empire of the Sun's last and only album, but all that changes this summer when Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore don magical, new sci-fi-looking threads for the release of their sophomore effort Ice On the Dune, due out sometime in June via Astralwerks. "Alive" is our first preview of the LP, a listen that still finds Empire of the Sun enjoying their position in the universe writing life-affirming, youth-pandering neon pop junk that will inevitably be used to sell cars or smart phones and find them listed on every summer alt-radio fest lineup. See if you still feel just as "Alive" with feeling as they do after giving it a pass below...
