Hear New Sound: VÅR's "The World Fell"

With Elias Rønnenfelt putting a bulk of the support work behind Iceage’s excellent early 2013 sophomore LP You’re Nothing behind him, the multi-dimensional Danish DIY scene torch bearer will be ushering in the spring time in a much different light when his experimental electro-pop project VÅR releases their highly anticipated debut full-length No One Dances Quite Like My Brothers on May 15th through Sacred Bones. “The World Fell” is not only our first preview off the effort, but it’s also our first assessment of the project since they expanded from the duo of Rønnenfelt and Sexdrone’s Loke Rahbek into a quartet featuring Kristian Emdal of Lower and Lukas Højland. VÅR’s various EPs and singles over the past year have centralized on minimalist synthetic textures and ambient vocal undertows produced inside lo-fi spaces, yet the added hands inside the studio finds “The World Fell” richly defining the band’s dance accessibility without losing their cold and desolate moody mystique.
