Sound Bites: Dead Trend, oOoOO and Queens of the Stone Age

Dead Trend's "19th Hole" and "Bad Policy"

Dead Trend, the rising New England hardcore revivalists who jumped off the pages of drummer / author Michael Fournier's novel Hidden Wheel, have unleashed two more tracks off their forthcoming debut False Positive. “19th Hole” and “Bad Policy” join "Not My Future" in fully immersing the quartet into the blood, sweat and piss-stained floors of the gloriously damaged ‘80s DIY scene, with frontman Jay Grant biting his way through his words with a noisy rock howl and agony you could easily imagine finding good company writhing on the ground alongside Pissed Jeans’ Matt Korvette. False Positive is due out May 7th on Fournier’s Cabildo imprint.

oOoOO's "Stay Here"

It's been awhile since we heard anything from witch house original and BUZZSound alum oOoOO's (pronounced "oh") creaky corners, but after a doubling of EPs over the past three years, the product of San Fran sound collagist Chris Dexter Greenspan is finally readying the release of his debut full-length. Without Your Love comes out on June 24th through oOoOO's new label Nihjgt Feelings and its first listen "Stay Here" provides a good barometer of where the genre has meandered to as the hype around it has cooled, sounding equally vapory in temperature with a ghostly vocal assistance from M.L.

Queens of the Stone Age's "My God Is the Sun"

Putting a six-year-long silence to an end, newly-minted indie rock power players Queens of the Stone Age have officially unveiled “My God Is the Sun,” the first single off their return LP and Matador debut, …Like Clockwork. As a first preview, it serves its purpose in reminding listeners of the band’s hot desert rock and sinisterly ghoulish roll, but for an album that will also boast guest appearances as vast and impressive within alt-rock’s rich legacy such as Trent Reznor, Dave Grohl and Mark Lanegan, it’s desiring that star power sound Josh Homme and friends have pulled off with immediate ease in the past. …Like Clockwork arrives on June 4th.
