Hear New Sound: Creative Adult's Bulls In the Yard EP

AwkwardSound's most recent BUZZSound Creative Adult surf dark waves of post-punk and hardcore malady much akin to their label-bending Bay Area contemporaries Ceremony, but there's an unbridled fire that's still burning in their sound which Ross Farrar and company have subdued for the time being, and it makes Creative Adult kind of like the still wild and reckless younger brother of the Matador punk darlings. They have a brand new EP entitled Bulls In the Cemetery that will be released May 14th on Run for Cover Records, but the San Fran quartet are flipping the bird to street dates and already streaming the entire four-track effort an entire week early, courtesy of Impose Magazine. Their early collection of singles alongside last year's standout Dead Air EP already showed DIY spaces they could wreck and refine hardcore punk all the same, but now we're beginning to see Creative Adult mature into the latter half of their namesake by employing the late night noise of Bad Moon Rising-era Sonic Youth on top of hanging out in some old goth rocker's garage while frontman Scott Phillips insists on using his head to break through the door. This is usually the time of the year AS' east coast ears naturally gravitate to the fault lines of Cali's punk scene, so consider Bulls In the Yard open season (and one of 2013's must-hear EPs.)
