Hear New Sound: Mikal Cronin's "Better Man"

You've probably been groovin' in the sunshine of Mikal Cronin's sophomore effort and Merge debut MCII, which has been streaming all week over at NPR, but that's not the only new sound heading our way from the Bay Area guitar pop cassette kid next week. Cronin alongside other garage dwellers from coast to coast such as the Black Lips, JEFF the Brotherhood, King Tuff, Thee Oh Sees and Weekend are all contributing new unreleased tracks for an upcoming Adult Swim compilation suitably titled Garage Swim, due out May 6th via the network's Williams Street Records. For Cronin's part, he's giving fans of lo-fi reverb crackle the not-a-Pearl-Jam-cover "Better Man," a strummy and fuzz-drenched power pop delight that has a pretty neat way of restarting itself to the beat of the E Street shuffle toward its tail end. You can listen to it below, and as an added bonus, hear the Black Lips' cool rocker "Cruising" (via Rolling Stone) and Thee Oh Sees stay true to form while dabbling in black magic on "Devil Again."
