Hear New Sound: Defeater's "Bastards"

In 2011 when Touché Amoré, Title Fight, La Dispute and Pianos Become the Teeth were making BUZZSounds and breakthroughs, AwkwardSound admittedly slept on another young rising sound from the post-hardcore underground in their peers Defeater. Their excellent sophomore effort Empty Days & Sleepless Nights displayed a promising duality between heavy-lifting aggression and a sparse acoustic flair most band’s within that world never bother chancing. Redemption is to be had here on AS in 2013, however, as the Boston quintet have announced that their third full-length effort, Letters Home, will be released on July 16th through Bridge Nine Records. It's a continuation of their earlier material that follows the story of a blue collar family living in post-World II America, but as the first preview “Bastards” suggests, Defeater’s fully charged and loudly amped stylistic personality runs into some bigger boots reeling out hard-kicking choruses courtesy of frontman Derek Archambault’s uncaged fury. Listen to these "Bastards" now...
