Weekend might be calling themselves Brooklyn transplants these days, but this summer is shaping up to be an impressively good time for the San Franciscan post-punk trio and their NorCal peers with a tendency to embellish the reverb, as its already given us the phenomenally blistering breakthrough from Deafheaven, Sunbather, a new EP on the way from their former touring guitarist Nick Bassett's project Whirr, and Jinx, Weekend's sophomore effort due out July 23rd on Slumberland Records. We've already heard two previews off the LP in "Sirens" and "Mirrors," and now we another indication that the nu-gazers are well on their way to lightening up their take on the C86 sound without as much psych hiss and chaos as heard on their debut Sports with "It's Alright." There's an light-headed wooziness afloat in Weekend's soundscape, and add to that the shook glitter dazzling around them, it's moments like this that have AwkwardSound feeling content that someone bothered to fill the gap left behind by the Depreciation Guild's all-too-early departure. "It's Alright" otherwise with the Weekend now..
