Hear New Sound: Jay-Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail

It's on this day -- our Independence Day -- that media mogul rapper Jay-Z has chosen to change the game of music marketing at we know it in his favor by rolling out his 12th full-length effort Magna Carta Holy Grail through a million copies worth's of mobile app downloads on the Samsung Galaxy network. A new platinum and gold standard to be followed by every musician here after? Unlikely, unless you're someone as successful as the Brooklyn entrepreneur and sports agent, but it's no doubt the grand PR spectacle you would expect from Hova just weeks removed from his pal Kanye's deliberately non-deliberate marketing campaign behind Yeezus struck similar media fervor. Yet, unlike 'Ye's effort which honed in on artsy minimalism, Jay's Magna Carta Holy Grail is an epic listen bloated with guest spots from top to bottom from both hip-hop and pop worlds that teeter between cringe-worthy (the Timbaland-produced, Justin Timberlake-featuring, Nirvana-homaging clusterfuck "Holy Grail,") to gilded future hits (the dangerously in love collab with his superstar wife BeyoncĂ©, "Part II (On the Run)," and the sultry R&B go "Oceans" where Jay finds himself being outshone by the red hot Frank Ocean.) Hear a choice sip from ...Holy Grail below, and for the rest of the modern-age rap publicity stunt, head over to Spotify...
