Just like many other spheres in the world of musical equipment, pedalboards, that tend to be considered as mere accessories, have their own battle: powered vs unpowered. I’m sure many of you will have a hard time resisting the former, however, there are cases when the latter category is better (we’ll discuss that another time). The difference between the two is that powered ones have power supply built in their bodies. This means that you can connect your adapter directly to the pedalboard, which means you can keep everything tidy and secure. Unpowered ones don’t have this option, which means you have to shove an adapter underneath their surface and their might be a lot of slippage and etc. If you’re ready to make an investment and you don’t care about the price tag, you should definitely go for powered option. Such expensive models have high quality wiring, which means you won’t have any problem with hisses and the chances of everything blowing up lower, as well. Today we’re going to talk about Boss BCB-60 – a powered pedalboard that you can trust with your most expensive and beloved stompboxes. It will protect them like a dedicated guard and wrap them up in cotton wool. If you’re interested in its features and peculiarities, then stay with me and find out what the best qualities of this fella are. Without further ado, let’s get started!
When discussing the units that are way better when they look fancy, I tend to start the reviews with their appearance. I’ll do the same thing with Boss BCB-60 just to have an opportunity to say how dull it looks. I don’t know why I expect something extraordinary from these things, but I can’t help it. I’ll be honest, it does still look quite sturdy and awakens the feel of security as you glance at it. And I guess that’s the main thing. This puppy is designed in black and only colorful accents you’ll find are the labels in the top part. I think I’m being picky – I apologize for that, but at the same time you should have all the information about all the features, shouldn’t you?
Moving onto more interesting features, the exterior of BCB-60 is built with molded resin. Though it isn’t as durable as die-cast metal shell, it’s still extremely sturdy. The case will protect your pedals really well, that’s for sure. The interior of the case is padded to increase security even further. But the padding is also used for fitting your stompboxes inside. It’s precut in certain shapes to make it easier for you to assemble your pedalboard. However, if your pedals don’t have standard size, you mightn’t be able to place them. There’s one more but – even though BCB-60 mightn’t be the best thing for unconventional shapes and sizes, it can easily store a twin-pedal. Let’s not forget that this one is medium in dimensions: it measures 27×15.5×5. This means that you can mount up to 7 stompboxes on its surface, which is quite enough if you don’t have an extensive rig. This puppy comes with onboard 1,000mA power supply, which can be used with all seven pedals simultaneously. Both have included all the cables, as well, which is a huge virtue. All the wiring has wonderful quality, so you don’t have to worry about you pedals melting into one huge pot. We shouldn’t forget that BCB-60 is rather lightweight, which makes it easily transportable. Nobody wants their pedalboard to be heavier than their amp, am I right? Boss has combined all the essential details and has come out with something that can be used throughout the whole lifetime (it might even pass from one generation to another, who knows).
Though we have never doubted the build quality of Boss products, it’s always nice to see that theme recurring from a unit to another. BCB-60 proves once again that this brand can be trusted, especially with something that relies on durability. This pedalboard/case is a secure box for your pedals. Precut padding makes sure your stompboxes stay in place and don’t fly into the audience. Onboard power supply is a huge virtue, since it doesn’t take up much space and spares you from the need to carry around your adapter. Included cables justify the price tag even further. As you can see, you don’t really have a choice other than going out there and purchasing BCB-60 from Boss. Good luck, fella, and may organized pedalboard bring positive changes in your life!
