Epiphone DR‌-100 Acoustic Guitar

Pros:

  • Good feel
  • Rich sound
  • Consistent

Cons:

  • Requires more tuning than usual
  • Not the best string

One of Epiphone’s best-selling acoustic guitar, DR-100 has got it all: great sound, beautiful look and superb quality. This dreadnought-style acoustic beauty is suitable for both professionals and newbies. A perfect gift for a beginner to take their first steps and a perfect gift for someone to continue enjoying their journey in music. So let’s talk a little bit more about the details.

Build Quality

An absolutely gorgeous model that makes you want to buy it right away without looking at any other information. But the looks are definitely not the factor that uplifts this guitar from just “affordable and okay quality” to a perfection at a great price. As you might have guessed this is a dreadnought style guitar that features spruce top and mahogany back, sides and neck. Mahogany is standard, good quality material that will last you a while and spruce top will give your guitar needed tone and sound. Fingerboard is rosewood which makes it durable and long lasting. Spruce top guitars usually age very well and improve the sound over a period of time.

Hardware

SlimTaper shape of the neck and Sloped Dovewing headstock makes playing easier and more comfortable, especially for beginners, while also giving  the guitar a more “sharp” look. This model also comes with die-cast premium tuners and chrome hardware that lasts for a long time. It does not have over-the-top hardware that you would die for but for the price, it offers all the basics that you will need at the beginning stages. One thing I would recommend is changing the strings this guitar comes with (unless you like them, of course). I have always found that with more affordable guitar tweaking some of the “smaller” details will make a big difference. And in case of this guitar, changing strings will definitely give you a better sound.

Epiphone DR‌-100 Sound

The dreadnought sound is rich, full and loud. There is no buzzing on strings or frets which is sometimes the case with cheaper models. Although you have to retune it several times that is the case with most newly bought guitars (break-in period with any strings will make you a master of re-tuning and restringing). The sound gets better and better with time so the more you play the more practice and rewards you will get.

Conclusion

Epitome of beauty, good quality and affordability this is a no miss for either professionals and beginners or anyone in between. The action, playability as well as neck comfort on DR‌-100 are something you would imagine a guitar at a $500-700 price range would have but this baby brings it all to the table at a much lower cost (under $200 range).
