Pros:

  • Rich, full sound

Cons:

Alvarez takes pride in their craftsmanship and attention to details. That is why their have created DYMR70, a dreadnought beauty from Alvarez-Yairi Masterworks series, crafted by master luthiers to achieve perfection in sound, build and playability. This is a beautiful looking model that would be a great fit for professionals. Beginners would definitely enjoy it but unless you have a couple of thousand dollars lying around and are absolutely sure you will keep on playing for years, you should go for a cheaper model.

Build

The DYMR70 is around shoulder dreadnought acoustic guitar that has a solid Sitka Spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides. Alvarez utilized the standard, yet very sturdy and durable, forward-shifted, scalloped X bracing. The neck is made of Mahogany, a great tonewood to create a balanced, warm sound. The minuscule details taken into account in the construction of this model is why this guitar has beautiful, harmonious sound that will blow your mind.

Hardware

Alvarez has equipped this model with Ebony direct-coupled bridge, Ebony fingerboard and headstock plate. The nut and saddle are made from real bone, as expected from the top-notch construction and material use. With help of these materials and details, the guitar achieves the upper echelons of quality in construction and sound. With Gotoh 510s Gold with Ebony Buttons tuners and D’Addario EXP strings and high-gloss sunburst finish is an epitome of beauty and functionality. This model also comes with deluxe wood case so that you can keep this precious beauty sealed off from any harm and danger.

Alvarez DYMR70 Sound

I think it is almost needless to discuss the sound of this guitar AND yet I do have to proceed. The rich, full, melodious tone of DYMR70 will hit you from the first moment you pick it up and only get better with time and practice. It is rare to find the sound as balanced and tone as vibrant as on this model. The loudness of this guitar does not mean that the details of the tonality have been disregarded. Overall, I think when you are choosing a guitar in this price range the only thing that should have the number one place in decision making is the sound of the guitar and this one is definitely a winner.

Conclusion

The DYMR70 is a beautiful-looking, well-constructed dreadnought acoustic guitar that might be in the higher price range but definitely delivers on the promise of being one of the best guitars you will ever hold in your hand. To be fair, if you are a beginner I doubt getting a $2000 guitar is the best idea in the world BUT for anyone sure that they will be playing for years to come this model is a great asset in developing your skills and enjoying playing for years and years.

  1. You guys are right on! I just bought a DYMR70SB Alvarez Yairi acoustic and it’s a mind blower:very loud, bright and balanced. It compares favorably to my 1969 Martin D35 Brazilian, my 614 CE Taylor, and my 1989 Lowden F32. Good job Alvarez!

  2. I’ve had my DYRM70sb for 4 years or so. I agree that it’s a super build and generally sounds great. My only complaint is it’s brightness and harshness when pushed in the highs. But the balance is perfect and the lows sublime. My high end Martins have a woodier quality to the tone.
