La Patrie Guitar Concert CW QI

  • Great tonewood
  • Comfortable neck
  • Rich sound

  • Price is not too beginner friendly
  • Might need a lot of tuning in the beginning (but so do most new guitars)

Sometimes some of the best things in the world come from the most random places. La Patrie is one of the examples; based in a small town in Quebec, the company has been producing top notch guitars for over 30 years. Instead of creating a mass manufacturing business, they have focused on delivering high quality hand crafted guitars. La Patrie, with their Guitar Concert CW QI, created a high quality model that boasts innovative construction and beautiful sound. This model is slightly over $500 but if we were ranking guitars by quality it would definitely be somewhere twice the price range.

This acoustic-electric guitar has solid cedar top made from 800 year old cedar trees. The quality of the wood ensures flexibility and rigidity of this mode as well as adding resonance and vibration to the sound. This model also features a side cutaway. The fretboard is made of rosewood and its radium is a bit smaller, making forming chords a lot easier. Bridge is rosewood while the saddle is compensated. The neck is made of Honduras mahogany. Usually classic guitars have thicker necks which helps durability and stability but also makes playing a bit harder, especially for beginners. In the case of this model, you will not have this problem because the special truss rod allows for smaller neck profile making it easier for you to grip and generally produces a much more comfortable construction than other classical guitars. The angle of the neck also leads to perfect neck alignment that improves the sound as well as stability and sturdiness of the overall structure.

This model features very precise gold “lyra” style tuners with Pearloid buttons and a semi-gloss satin finish. The finish of the guitar is often looked over but it definitely plays a huge role in the sound and appearance of the guitar. LaPatrie’s multi-coat finish not only brings out the beautiful color of the wood but also lets the wood breathe and helps guitar vibrate freely. Just as proof of the craftsmanship and details LaPatrie uses in their guitars is the fact that the process of applying finish involves an eight-day period.

La Patrie Concert Sound

When even the finish process takes 8 days no one should doubt the details and elaboration that goes into making LaPatrie’s guitars. Their effort and choice of material and construction method are reflected in the sound of this guitar. CW QI has powerful, amazing volume but at the same time has very mellow treble register. The finish on this model actually helps the guitar resonate and vibrate better, which is rarely the case with finish. An amazing model that will be a great instrument both for a professional and a beginner, as the amount of the set up one has to do is close to none.

If you are looking for a great quality acoustic-electric guitar La Patrie Guitar Concert CW QI might be the right one for you because of great construction, sound and (let’s be honest) looks. This might be in a mid range price, or even high-range for beginners, but compared to the quality of the guita’s craftsmanship, it definitely is not overpriced. For professionals or anyone who appreciates the time and craftsmanship involved in creating unique, beautiful guitars this one is a no miss.
