Every single performance starts and ends with an amplifier. This is a device that cannot (and must not) be left out, because it impacts the way your music will be perceived by the audience. Apart from attenuating your sound, an amplifier allows you to employ audio effects and experiment with your tone. It is a secret weapon that every musician should possess. Speaking of which, today we are going to discuss Line 6 Classic 15. This bad boy has a lot to brag about, so let’s dive right into it and figure out, what makes it so special.

Features

When it comes to features, Classic 15 offers just as much as its Spider siblings. It has an 8” speaker with 15 watts of power, which is more than enough for practice or studio utilization. This is a solid-state amp that is equipped with 4 amp models that vary from subtle and clean magic to distorted haze. This enables the player to experiment with various sounds and find the most perfect one. Classic 15 allows you to record and replay your favorite pieces, which means you will not have to fuss with settings each and every time.

This makes the utilization of this unit even easier. What is more, it has a built-in tuner (for keeping everything in tune at all times) and a headphone jack (to avoid disturbing your neighbors or family members), which is a great addition to an already amazing amp. Classic 15 offers 6 audio effects that add up to the versatility of this device.

Controls

Right off the bat, all the knobs and controls on Classic 15 might seem a bit overwhelming and complicated. However, once you get to tweaking and grasping what each of them does, managing this badass unit will be a piece of cake for you.

The controls start off with basics: we have Drive, Bass, Middle, Treble and Volume knobs, which allow you to shape your tone meticulously and tailor it to perfection. Then comes the more interesting ones: two Smart FX knobs and a Master Volume. Smart FX controls allow you to choose between 6 audio effects, including reverb, tape/sweep echo, and tremolo.

They enable you to utilize two effects simultaneously and create something extremely unique. Above these, you will find amp modeling buttons: Clean, Crunch, Metal, and Insane. And finally, we have a Tuner switch, which activates the said feature. Keep in mind, that these controls are really sensitive and interactive, so it will be better to avoid touching them after figuring out the perfect settings. I am sure you do not want your volume to jump up and down during your practice, do you?

Line 6 Spider Classic 15 Sound

Let’s start with amp modeling.

    • The clean setting is rather pristine, and with the addition of some EQs, you could really rock your sound. This mode generates clear tones beautifully and leaves a lot of room for simplicity.
    • The crunch is basically a subtle distortion with just a touch of drive. It is toned down, which is great for those who just want to add some texture to their sound.
  • Metal and Insane are exactly what their names indicate on. The former offers thick, gnarly distortion which is steeped with girth, while the latter is an extreme distortion, which definitely is not for everybody.

Classic 15 offers a great deal of flexibility in terms of audio effects. Even though they are not as “individual” as separate pedals, they can still produce the desired sound decently. And the controls provided are more than enough for managing various parameters of the effects. As I have already mentioned, Smart FX knobs allow you to layer on different effects and create a thick, saturated and dimensional tone.

Conclusion

To conclude everything said above, Line 6 Classic 15 is an amazing option, if you are looking for a practice amp that can be purchased on a budget. This bad boy is affordable, versatile and easy to use. Plus, it has all the features you would need while mastering your performance. This amp will be especially useful for beginners, but it could easily cover the needs of the professionals as well. All things considered, I would highly recommend Classic 15 for practice.
