We’ve all been there: at the beginning of our career, we owned hardly any stompboxes. Our collection would grow really slowly and be comprised of the essential or basic units. More often than not, we purchased smaller pedals i.e. minis or micro versions to make sure we’d fit in the budget. That clever decision made it possible to experiment with various effects without having to save up every single coin. On that journey we discovered that we didn’t need an extensive pedalboard (some didn’t even realize they needed one) – we wanted something that would accommodate our small collection.

That attitude is something we have to maintain throughout our whole professional life since the first step of every purchase should be the recognition of what you actually need. There’s a huge difference between the pedals we need and the ones we desire. This article is for those who know that they need something simple, small and convenient. Pedaltrain Metro 16 will be a perfect match for anyone with shier collection of stompboxes, yet it has several features that make it worth a shot. If you want to dig into the details and explore the properties of this fella, you should make yourself comfortable and read this article carefully. Who knows, you might even find the information (or even the sign from the universe) you were waiting for. Let’s get started!

Pedaltrain Metro 16 Features

When it comes to the pedalboards, the chances are, you won’t find anything extraordinary in any of the units. They all have the same pattern and the differences between them aren’t that significant. However, brands realize that such devices are straightforward and turn to details in order to set their products apart from the crowd. The same pattern is followed in the case of Metro 16 from Pedaltrain. As I have mentioned above, it’s the perfect match for those who own many mini or micro pedals (and have a smaller collection in general).

This doesn’t mean that it can’t accommodate bigger units – that would be an inaccurate thing to state. You could easily mount a standard-sized stompbox on this one, however, due to its unique nature, it will be a great fit for smaller ones. What I’m trying to say is that this puppy has a modified rail system i.e. three rails that are close to each other. This way your tiny units will grab onto the surface securely and stay there until you decide to substitute them for something else.

Metro 16 has a horizontal orientation, meaning that it doesn’t have an incline. It is natural to worry that the space beneath the pedalboard won’t be enough for the adapters (yeah, you’ll need an external one, this fella isn’t powered), however, this puppy is capable of accommodating thinner power supplies under its body. The fact that it’s horizontal means that it won’t take up too much space in your bag and be more convenient to carry around. Metro 16 comes with 48” of professional-grade “hook-and-loop” and a bunch of zip ties, which will keep your pedals in place and make sure they won’t fall off during performance or transportation.

More importantly, this buddy is built with aluminum (but it’s still lightweight) that is sturdy enough to last through abusive utilization. It measures 16 x 8 x 1.4 inches – quite indicative of its medium size. Naturally, this fella comes with a soft case. Though it doesn’t offer military-grade protection, it still makes the pedalboard easy to carry around and keeps everything intact. It’s made with rugged material that will make sure it won’t tear that easily. Plus, it has a shoulder strap which means you can just carry it around on your shoulder – a nice way to keep your hands free. All in all, Pedaltrain kept in mind all the details and designed Metro 16 in a way that would be more convenient for the guitarists in every way.

To round up everything we discussed above, I’ll just say that Pedaltrain Metro 16 is tailored for those guitarists, who don’t have an extensive pedal collection or just own a lot of mini/micro-units. Not all the brands provide us with the ability to mount those tiny buddies on our pedalboards, which means we have to appreciate this one even more. It has the wonderful build quality and its design will satisfy your needs perfectly. Unless you’re looking for something unique, this one is the perfect option. Once you start using it, there will be no going back. Good luck!
