Yamaha L-Series LS6

Pros:

  • Great construction
  • Deep, full sound
  • Comfortable

Cons:

  • Not the highest quality tonewood (but it works well together)
  • It is a bit expensive for beginners

If you are looking for a good quality Concert style guitar look no further. Yamaha L-Series LS6 has great construction, good tonewood and astounding sound that you thought you could only expect from much higher-priced models. This model meets and exceeds all the requirements that a beginner or an intermediate player might have. The carefully chosen tonewood, which fits together perfectly and comfortable, lightweight material makes this a winner in its price range.

Build Quality

The LS6 has Solid Engelmann Spruce top and rosewood back and sides. Yamaha always knows how to select good quality tonewood for the right sound. Engelmann spruce top and rosewood are not the highest priced and most coveted materials but they do a great job of producing the right tone and resonance while also being durable and lightweight enough for beginners to feel comfortable using this acoustic-electric model.

The reinforced neck is multilayered mahogany and rosewood and fits well with the top tonewood, producing a tantalizing tone. By enlarging the surface of the C block that connects the neck with the body, Yamaha reinforces the neck joint making it more sturdy and durable. Yamaha has improved the conventional C block design by enlarging the surface area that connects the neck and top of the guitar and giving tone more depth while also making the joint more sturdy and durable.

The X bracing also helps create a vibration that is suitable for this model creating a balanced tone. This model is a testament to the fact that construction and great luthiers can take an okay tonewood and make it great. The handcrafted construction by some of the best Japanese luthiers makes good quality tonewood become great in the hand of even very untrained musicians.

Hardware

Yamaha has equipped their LS6 with an Ebony fretboard and bridge. The die-cast tuners are quite standard but meet all the necessities that a beginner or an intermediate player might have. And to top it all of the hi-gloss finish brings out the natural beauty and coloring of the tonewood while also allowing it to breathe, age better and produce better vibration.

Yamaha LS6 Sound

The key to perfecting the sound of the guitar lies with… well it lies with the player. BUT a player cannot do much with the sound if the guitar does not meet all the standard, basic requirements. That is where the luthiers and years of expertise in blending the right materials come into play. The Engelmann Spruce top and rosewood back and sides are not the most amazing tonewood that you can think of but the way they are fitted together creates a beautiful tone, great volume, and deep tone that even some more high-priced guitars sometimes lack. The tone and sound are well balanced, and the bass and treble are amazing, leaving you, the player, with the best product, unmatched in its price range, with all the necessary tools for you to create and learn (while not being broke from buying $1000 model).

Conclusion

Yamaha has done it again and will probably do it hundreds time more – they managed to select affordable tonewood that fit together perfectly and create amazing sound. The LS6 is a perfect guitar for beginners and intermediate players, who want to experience the world of music while not overpaying for guitars. That being said, professionals who want a standard, good quality guitar for travelling (so that their expensive $2000 models do not have to suffer) might also enjoy this mode.
