Hear New Sound: Mazzy Star's "Common Burn" / "Lay Myself Down"

It's finally happening. After 15 long years of silence and rumblings of a return, influential '90s alt-country / slocore duo, Mazzy Star are definitely back with plans to tour in 2012 and release a brand new album soon after. Before the official reunion kicks off, Hope Sandoval and David Roback are giving fans new and old a taste of what's to come in the form of a new single, "Common Burn" which is set for its official release on October 31st digitally and at some point as a limited 7" single on the band's label, Rhymes of an Hour. No trick here, though, as it looks like both "Common Burn" and its B-side, "Lay Myself Down" have made their way onto the Internet well before their planned Halloween release, and it's definitely not a bad thing. Mazzy Star's timeless sound complete with Sandoval's dusty vocals drowned in somber melancholia, a bit of twang and a touch of sliding guitar move their way slowly throughout each track. Fade back into Mazzy Star below...
