The electric bass guitar is a wonderful instrument that has a lot of specifications in how it is made. This is why it is so hard to find an actually good electric bass guitar that also is incredibly affordable. Thankfully, all I ever do with my life is scour the world for good and cheap instruments and I have finally found a contender for a good, cheap bass guitar. Let us take a look at the Dean E09M Edge Mahogany Electric Bass and see what makes it so good.
The first thing we are going to discuss is the part which I dislike the most about this instrument: the design. There are a lot of funky-looking bass guitars out there, and most of them have a quality in this funkiness that makes them enjoyable. This bass guitar is definitely funky looking, but it is missing the part that would make it so much more loveable. The top wing of the guitar is large and looks a little clumsy, while the low one is small and short. The result is a guitar looking a little lopsided.
The body of the guitar is made out of basswood. This tonewood has a lot of qualities that make it especially popular among bass guitar manufacturers. The cheapness of the material and how easy it is to work with is what makes it so beloved. The tonewood has a lot of lovable qualities for the players as well. The tonewood has wonderful resonance with the lower tones of an instrument, which is a lovely quality to have in a bass guitar. The lightweight of the tonewood is also a lovely quality in an instrument. The tonewood is known to be a little soft, which results in easy denting and scratching, but its not a bad thing.
The neck of the guitar is built out of maple, a traditional choice among guitars of all shapes and sizes. It provides the instrument with a sturdy neck, one which is resistant to high pressure warping, denting and scratching. The bolt on nature of the neck joint makes the guitar cheap, without too many issues in terms of alignment to talk about. The fretboard of the guitar is made out of rosewood.
The guitar comes with a fixed bridge design. This provides the guitar with a nice string stability, but the action leaves more to be desired out of the guitar.
The nut is made out of lower-quality synthetic material, which results in the early grinding down of the nut. Replacing it should not be too much of a problem though.
The tuning machine of the guitar is decent so you will not have too many issues with the tuning of the guitar. A nice little detail.
The electric bass guitar comes with a single soap bar pickup. The soap bar acts as a humbucker, which produces a lovely sound in the guitar. The pickup has a very nice, powerful output with the lower tones sounding thick and all kinds of lovely. The pickup is a stock one, but it is a really nice stock pickup so it definitely is worth the money.
The guitar comes with a very simplistic control pattern, with one master volume knob and one master tone knob.
Dean Edge 09 Sound
Compared to the overall quality and the price of the guitar, this instrument produces an incredible sound. It is thick, warm, and all kinds of groovy. The low tones and the high tones are equally expressive in their funk. Overall a great instrument with a flexible sound.
A good bass guitar, especially for a beginner. It comes at a lovely price and produces a sound way beyond its price. Great stuff.
