There are a lot of electric bass guitars on the market, and a whole lot of them are of good quality. There is an even large pool of electric bass guitars that are affordable. Though the intersection of these two qualities is something you don’t find too often on the market. Which is why we are all lucky to have one of the examples of affordable and quality available on the market. Let us take a look at Ibanez Talman TMB100 IV 2015 Ivory Electric Bass and see how good it actually is.

Body Quality

The design of this electric bass guitar could be considered classical, with the vintage and modern ideas about bass guitar design being combined into one guitar. The bass guitar has a very distinctive style, with the top wing being pronounced, while the lower is a little smaller. This seemingly lopsided combination works well, especially with some of the color patterns chosen by the manufacturers. The pickguard works well to both, protect the guitar and have an interesting look.

The body of the guitar is built out of mahogany, which is a great choice, always, for any bass guitar. With the guitar being affordable as it is, the choice of mahogany seems to be a bold one by the manufacturer. The result is that we get a guitar body that is incredibly sturdy, resistant to most damage, scratching and denting. The mahogany also has a very nice effect on the tones of the guitar. It warms the overall sound, while resonating with the bass tones in a powerful and enjoyable manner. The mid tones also have a more pronounced character because of the tonewood.

The neck of the guitar is made out of maple. This is a traditional choice among most guitars, and is especially useful with bass guitars. A maple neck means a sturdy nature for the guitar, durability and a long lifespan thanks to the warp resistance. The neck of the guitar is bolted onto the body, but because of the sturdy nature of the tonewoods used, this does not get in the way of the guitar’s stability. The fretboard of the guitar is made out of rosewood.

Hardware

The electric bass guitar sports a standard bridge. This fixed bridge setup allows the guitar to have some very nice string stability and to have some nice action when playing.

The nut of the guitar is made of a decent synthetic material, which results in the guitar having some nice harmony and little to no string buzz at all.

The tuning machine of the guitar is decent. The design works well with the rest of the guitar, while the tuning stability is more or less acceptable.

Electronics

The guitar comes with a double pickup configuration. One pickup is at the neck, the other at the bridge and both of them have a great sound. The two Dynamix pickups, the J and P models, have an interesting sound and some great output. These pickups work incredibly well for the bass, producing a powerful and thick sound. The lifespan of the pickups is long and enjoyable until the very last moment.

The controls of the bass guitar are slightly on the basic side. The player has a master volume knob, one bass boost knob, one treble and cut. Overall, pretty useful on a bass guitar.

Sound

The guitar sounds powerful, is the least I could say. The sound is nuanced and powerful, meaning you will have no problem taking over with your bass solos. The thick sound of the bass is enjoyable and heartwarming, with the ability to work with rock, metal and blues all the like. Good, thick and warm sound is always nice.

Conclusion

A great bass guitar with interesting looks and a thick sound. Highly enjoyable and highly recommended if you are looking for a cheap bass with a lot of positive things to say about it. Good luck and enjoy.
