Martin D12-28

Pros:

  • Full sound
  • Comfortable neck
  • Amazing build

Cons:

  • Pricier than an average guitar
  • Let’s be honest, it’s Martin, apart from price I cannot find any faults

There is nothing much to say about Martin that has not already been said. It is loved by thousands and thousands of guitar players and owning one of this company’s models is kind of an honor and privilege. Unfortunately a lot of their guitars are in a … let’s say, not the most affordable price range. That being said, there is a reason why so many people still prefer their guitars to more affordable model. The sound, build, and comfort that Martin’s guitars offer is unmatched. Instead of talking on and on about how great the company is let’s discuss D12-28, one of their models and you can judge for yourself.

Build Quality

This dreadnought style acoustic guitar is made of Sitka Spruce top and East Indian Rosewood back and sides. The choice of these tonewoods creates astounding, balanced sound that will only get better as you play. The neck is select hardwood with a Dovetail Neck Joint connecting to the body. The low profile neck is very comfortable so if you are a beginner that is a big plus. The Dovetail is the most common and sturdy method so you will not have to worry about the durability of your guitar. This guitar has non-scalloped X bracing, the bracing material is itself Sitka Spruce which adds more rigidity to your guitar.

Hardware

The D12-28 is equipped with Solid Black Ebony bridge and fingerboard. The nut and saddle are made of bone which is a great material (for some the only possible material for the nut). Bone is one of the most revered and loved materials for the nut of the guitar because of its bright, crisp sound and durability. The tuning machines are Chrome enclosed with small buttons. To top is all off, the guitar has polished gloss on the Sitka Spruce top and top Rosewood back and sides while the neck has Satin finish. This gloss allows the tonewood to breathe and vibrate better.

Martin D12-28 Sound

The tonewood and classical shape of the D12-28 create a guitar with balanced tone and amazing sound. Martin is famous for their quality in the build of the guitar and the material they use but most of all people love the sound of their guitars. Martin D12-28 is no exception. Make no mistake, it does not really matter that this model is in under $200 range, from the moment you pick it up you recognize the sweet and full sound that Martin is so proud of.

Conclusion

This is a classic dreadnought acoustic guitar that has all the necessary requisites for either beginners of professionals who are looking for a guitar that will last them years to come and share the ups and downs of their journey in the music world.
