I don’t have any kids but I do have a niece, who’s been living with me since her very birth. I have helped in the process of bringing her up and I know how stubborn children can be. She’s always had a mind and attitude of her own, and I have never been able to convince her in anything. So I understand how hard it can be to lure your children into learning to play guitar.
Forcing them to take up a new instrument isn’t the best approach – the chances are they will protest and even if they agree to learn, they won’t have the attitude that’s required for quality. That’s why a better approach would be to give them something they will like – something they will have a hard time saying no to. That could be an irresistible reward or a guitar with an attractive appearance.
Today I’ll be talking about the latter since the former is too subjective to discuss this way. I’ll introduce Peavey Captain America ¾ Rockmaster – a scaled down electric guitar that will surely interest and intrigue your little one. Its design is worth showing off, while the sound and playability are equally appealing. Give it to your baby as a gift and you’ll see how quickly they will become eager to learn how to play. Let’s begin this review and discuss all the details you need to know before you make a purchase.
Build
If you or your kid aren’t into Marvel, then you might want to pass on this one. Unless you want to get annoyed each time you look at it, it’s better to look for something else. But those who do enjoy Marvel and Captain America in particular, this guitar will be your lifesaver. I have to start with the design because I just can’t resist it. The black body features a huge painting of Captain America, while the headstock displays the logos of Peavey and Marvel. If my parents gave this guitar to me when I was a kid, I’d started playing an electric guitar way sooner.
But I guess that’s in the past… Rockmaster comes in different sizes, and the particular model we’re talking about is ¾ of the full-size model. The scale length is 22.5 inches, which makes it perfect for the growing body of your kid. It’s neither too small or big – I’d say it has a perfect size. It could even be suitable for grown-ups, who can’t adjust to large guitars. The choice is always yours – all you need to know is that your children will feel comfortable while playing this model.
Of course, it’s important to discuss the construction. Captain America ¾ Rockmaster has a basswood body. I’ll be honest with you – the build quality isn’t the best here. But you should keep in mind that your child will outgrow this guitar eventually, so you need something that will last you till they are still small. It’s safe to say that the body is still rugged and won’t break apart unless you beat the crap out of it (don’t do that, please).
The maple neck is topped with a rosewood fingerboard. It has 21 frets that don’t have any rough edges. That can be quite an issue with affordable guitars and it’s really nice that we don’t have that problem with this model. It has white dot inlays that will help your kid move up and down the fingerboard without getting lost. Though not perfect, Captain America ¾ Rockmaster is still a wonderful piece in terms of construction.
Hardware
This guitar doesn’t offer anything extraordinary in terms of hardware. Yet it does have some interesting features. This bad boy comes with an adjustable bridge, that will help you tailor the guitar to the preferences of your child. Die-cast chrome tuners are easy to tune and keep the strings in perfect shape for quite a while. Chrome hardware complements the design pretty well, apart from being rugged and durable.
Electronics
We don’t have a lot to say when it comes to electronics. Captain America ¾ Rockmaster has a single humbucking pickup on the bridge position. It has a decent quality and reproduces your sound very well. The controls we have here are Volume and Tone. They make it possible to adjust the properties in your sound and add final touches to it. After all, your kids need to know how to improve their tone not just by playing better, but also by using the included tools.
Peavey Captain Sound
I’m sure you want to know how Captain America ¾ Rockmaster sounds. The design is good and all, but we can’t splurge for a guitar-based merely on that parameter, can we? It’s important for a guitar that’s dedicated for a kid to have a decent sound, otherwise, they will never be able to learn properly. Luckily, this fella sounds better than good. The tone is quite clean and balanced, and can easily be paired with some distortion or overdrive. Its definition is what makes it so suitable for your children. It’s a bit limited in terms of versatility – we only have one pickup and a couple of knobs to mess around with. But you should keep in mind that simplicity is what you should look for with guitars dedicated for kids. As they mature and learn playing to the level where they will need something more advanced, you can, of course, update this guitar to something else. But for their beginner needs, Captain America ¾ Rockmaster is perfect.

To sum up everything mentioned above, we can easily say that Captain America ¾ Rockmaster is the most attractive guitar for your kids. It will immediately awaken interest and lure them into playing guitar. It’s simple to play and its size won’t be a burden to their growing body. This fella can be a really cool entry-level piece for them, as they will brag about it with all their friends. They might invite some of them over to show off their Rockmaster.
