Seagull Coastline S6 Slim CW Spruce QI

Pros:

  • Great sound
  • Comfortable neck to grip
  • Consistent and the sound gets better with time

Cons:

  • Might be pricier for beginner’s budget
  • Tusq nut, for some, does not sound as bright as real bone

Seagull’s Coastline S6 Slim CW Spruce QI is a cutaway dreadnought model that is a great fit for professionals as well as beginners. Proving once again why Seagull is the first choice for a lot of professionals, this model provides amazing construction, sound and playability. I know it might sound a bit pricey for a beginner but hear me out (or you know…read the review and conclusion) to see my point of why you should consider a more pricier option even if you are a beginner on a budget.

Build

The Coastline S6 Slim Cutaway Spruce QI’s solid spruce top is pressure tested for the best tone and projection that also offers rigidity and stiffness to ensure maximum harmonic vibration and great sound. The compound-curved top adds structural integrity to the guitar and allows for thinner bracing. The back and sides are laminated wild cherry, giving this model a balance between warm and bright tones. The integrated set neck adds to the stability of the construction and the slimmer nut makes it easier to grip and play, especially for beginners who find it hard to play dreadnought guitars.

Hardware

This model features a tapered headstock that gives this model a straight pull and better tuning. The nut is made of Tusq and the saddle is compensated. For a lot of people, real bone is the only way to go for nut material due to its quality and brightness but tusq actually comes very close to those standards, especially if all the materials are chosen in a way to help create the best sound and most comfort. The dual-function truss rods provides relief and correct neck alignment which is vital in keeping your guitar intact and sounding great for long period of time. This model is also equipped with Godin Quantum I which has a very simple design yet is extremely functional and has very responsive saddle transducer. It is very simple to use, so a great option for a beginner but the quality of it also guarantees that a gigging musician also would love it.

Seagull S6 Sound

The purpose of construction and material is always to help out, enhance, and better the sound and tone of the guitar. Seagulls’ attention to detail with their models, especially this one, has helped them achieve full-range tone and an amazing sound that people are dying to find. A solid spruce top and hand-finished neck give this model bright, clear sound that will only get better with time.

Conclusion

Yes, I know… I have said that this is a great guitar for beginners as well but then you looked at the price point and you went: “what the hell are they talking about, I am not spending over $600 for a guitar I might change in a year or two. The thing is, whenever I am recommending a guitar to the first comers I try to show them guitars at a lower price point BUT to be honest, if I were in the position of buying a first guitar I would try to save up a little bit more and buy a guitar with elaborate construction and astounding sound that will last me for years, than a guitar that is in the really good price range but I will probably toss in a year. On top of that, you want to make sure that your first step into playing guitars is on the right guitar and it is rather hard to find a perfect and comfortable model that will have no problems.

  1. Good review. I own this exact model Seagull Coastline and I can tell you, it is one of the best built, most finely crafted instruments I’ve ever played; and I’ve been playing guitar for 39 years. It easily competes with guitars from Taylor and Martin that go for between $2,000 and $3,000… And at around $600- $750 depending where you and when you shop. The unplugged sound is refined and well defined with excellent separation between low middle and high frequencies. It came setup beautifully out of the box. I did switch out the .12’s it came with for some .11’s. just personal preference. Otherwise, this guitar was ready to rock n roll from the word go. Lastly, the Godin designed Q1T electronics are absolutely fantastic and provide a plugged in sound that sounds more mic’ed than plugged in. You have to hear it to believe it. If you have the dough, run, don’t walk to your nearest guitar store and get one of these, I promise, you won’t regret it.
