Technological development is a bizarre thing: one day you are happy that you finally have the ability to play with an effects pedal and the next brand start advertising assisting software. Such apps and online editors open up the doors of interminable possibilities. With their help you can modify every single aspect in your tone and add interesting effects on top. They allow you to turn your pedal into a multi-effect unit in a blink of an eye. And you, yourself, become the wizard of tone shaping and quickly turn into a real professional that could run a studio.

Exaggeration aside, they do enable you to tweak your sound to its core and make things even more scrupulous and refined. All you have to do is purchase a pedal, plug it in, connect it with the software or the app and start performing. It will take some time to get the hang of everything, but you will get there soon enough. In this article I will talk about Source Audio Vertigo Tremolo – a powerful stompbox that has countless possibilities under the hood. I will leave it a secret for now but below I will discuss everything in great detail. Stay with me, buddy, and become an expert on this pedal. Let’s begin!

Features

Source Audio Vertigo Tremolo belongs to ‘One Series’ line. Just like its brothers and sisters, this fella is compatible with Neuro Mobile App. This means that you get access to the software that creates more possibilities for you. To be more precise, you can download additional tremolo algorithms, modify a wide range of parameters, create, save and share presets or download already existing ones with ease. Vertigo Tremolo can be connected to your phone using the headphone socket and a special cable that comes with the pedal.

Even though I have not even covered the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Neuro, I do not think it is possible to be more detailed about it due to its extreme diversity. Moving on to the stompbox itself, it is shelled in a swampy green enclosure, that is made out of brushed anodized aluminum. It has universal bypass i.e. you can choose between true and buffered options. Vertigo Tremolo offers three different types of tremolo and waveforms, giving you access to mouthwatering flavors.

It is compact in size and will take up hardly any space on your pedalboard. More importantly, it has MIDI functionality which enables you to utilize and modify even more properties. Let’s not forget that this bad boy can only be powered with the adapter that is included in the package. Source Audio does not recommend using any other adapter to avoid issues with compliance and damage. Vertigo Tremolo can operate in mono or stereo modes, adding simplistic touch or spatial feel to your tremolos.

It is compatible with an expression pedal or the brand’s wireless controllers. This baby would be an amazing pedal without anything else but the addition of Neuro Hub and Mobile App turns it into one of the best stompboxes out there.

Controls

The control section of Vertigo Tremolo is so easy to understand that even your toddler would fiddle around successfully. That is the recurrent theme of Source Audio pedals and this model is no exception. The simplicity of the layout does not necessarily mean that you lack controls here. In fact, you can easily take over your tone with a couple of tweaks. And this is why Vertigo Tremolo is so pleasant to use on a daily basis and in all special moments.

The panel sports four knobs and one toggle. Depth modifies the intensity of tremolo and allows you to either keep it subtle or completely steep your sound with it. Speed adjusts the rate of LFO and enables you to be as slow or fast as you want. Effects switch offers three different types of tremolo: Normal (Optical), Harmonic and Biased. The shape knob has three different settings: Sine, Square and Sawtooth. If you set it between two waveforms, you will receive a hybrid that will give you interesting results. And one more thing, in Normal setting, Sine is substituted with Optical from 1967 Vibrolux. Then we have Level, which sets the volume of the overall sound. Last but not least, we have Control Input Button for external control and a footswitch that activates or bypasses the pedal.

Source Audio SA243 Sound

The sound of Vertigo Tremolo is something that is hard to describe with words. Sure, I can give you an idea of what it is like, but you will actually understand it only after plugging in. This baby sounds like an amplifier tremolo, which says a lot. It can create the vibes of brownface and blackface, allowing you to create the sense of legendary amps. It can go from subtle and conservative tremolo to a captivating haze of hypnotic wobble. With the ability to modify the waveforms you can alter the character of your tremolo completely and experiment with new spectrum each time.

The knobs are responsive and accurate, which means they contribute to tonal clarity a great deal. However, if Vertigo Tremolo was a pie, this would be just a bite. Neuro Mobile App and Neuro Hub have so many different things to offer that we cannot even list everything in here. Consider that hub can store up to 128 presets and you will know what I am talking about. Briefly, it would be hard to imagine a unit with more versatility than this one.

Conclusion

On the whole, Source Audio succeeded once again at creating a real beast of a unit. Vertigo Tremolo is definitely in the list of best tremolo pedals on the market. It has everything you could ask for and does not lack anything that you would miss during daily performances. This thing knows you to perceive your sound, add perfect tremolo to it and emit mind-blowing results. After everything I have just said, I don’t even know what you are waiting for. Good luck!
